Data-Driven Instruction

Every student who attends a hitting lesson at the Pinkman Academy will experience a full voice-over video analysis of their swing and our Hittrax batting simulator. Hittrax measures real-time data (ball exit velocity, launch angle, and distance) displaying live results for immediate feedback. We will analyze key performance metrics through video and the Hittrax to identify your tendencies before stepping onto the field.

You are About to Be Introduced to Something DIFFERENT.

  • HitTrax baseball/softball data capture and simulation system
  • JC Video frame-by-frame analysis – compare yourself to the pros!
  • Instructors certified in Rebel’s Rack Movement Progression

Our families have come to rely on the Pinkman Academy for professional instruction that produces results. As teaching professionals we gather and share the best information available, educate players, and improve their experience in the game. We invest in technology and advanced training for the sole purpose of bringing you the best training available. The bottom line is always about producing results.

Students of the Game

We study why one baseball or softball hitting method works and another doesn’t. We have and will continue to let conventional wisdom go by the wayside. While the games of baseball and softball have been around for over a hundred years improving on a hitter’s approach at the plate is key successful hitting. With the advancement in video technology over the past 20+ years, and the addition of the Hittrax batting simulator, we study how the best in the game continue to be the best, and to incorporate more specific training methods to track individual progress.

Rotational Hitting

Since 2004 we have discovered their are two styles of hitting — 1) a hands to the ball – swing down approach, and 2) a stronger more consistent professional rotational style hitting approach. The first style teaches you to swing down on the ball to avoid hitting the ball in the air (fly-ball or pop up), and is thought to be most popular in little league and softball. The second style, the “professional”, or rotational approach, we see MLB, NCAA, and high level high school hitters adopt, teaches you to match the plane of your swing to the plane of the oncoming pitch, maximizing the opportunity for the energy the batter produces to be directed back in to the ball. The professional approach or “rotational hitting” is a technique that was used by the greatest hitter ever, Ted Williams. It became less popular in the 70’s due to AstroTurf fields that encouraged hitting the ball on the ground. In youth leagues, the popularity of the extremely light bats also helps the swing down approach providing assistance that the hitting technique could not.

There is a reason why so many youth baseball and softball players struggle to perform. The age old tactic of just putting the baseball or softball “in play” just isn’t cutting it these days. Players today want more than just to “make contact”. Players want to see the ball leave the infield by hitting the ball in to the outfield. Players want to see more extra-base hits. With the technology of baseball and softball bats improving year after year the “hands to the ball” swing down approach just doesn’t allow for players to maximize their opportunities. Our HitTrax batting simulator will instantly show you how elevating the ball to a 10-30 degree angle will provide your son or daughter more base hits.

As you watch MLB, NCAA, Olympic, and baseball and softball hitters on TV with the 1000fps slow motion replay, please notice the path or plane of their swing – no matter where the ball is pitched. Better yet, visit our academy and view our slow motion images of the best hitters in the game and our past and present students. We will show you in game clips of MLB Players Anthony Rendon, Derek Jeter, Andrew McCutchen, Kris Bryant, Trey Turner, Yogi Berra, and many more. Our approach is proven and your baseball or softball player will develop more power, hit more consistency, and hit the ball further. Tom House once said at our Academy “a pitcher’s worst nightmare is when a player’s bat is on the same plane as the pitcher’s ball.”

THE REBEL’S RACK

Pinkman Academy instructors are certified in the Rebel’s Rack movement progression

We teach the Rebel’s Rack Movement Progression because it’s the fastest way to make players understand how to rotate in the best possible way.

JK Whited shows the Rebel's Rack Movement Progression at Baseball Rebellion in Durham, NC

Rotation is a skill and is completely under-taught at all levels of baseball and softball. The Rebel’s Rack Progression teaches players not only how to rotate the fastest way possible, but also when to rotate and how to trick the body into forgetting how to rotate slowly. Speed is the name of the game with baseball and softball.

Successful hitters at any level whether it’s 10u travel ball or playing at a top division one school they turn their body explosively! This makes their swing efficient because the faster you turn with the Rebel’s Rack, then the better you are at turning on the pitch. Giving the hitter more time to read and track where the pitch will be. Therefore, turning fast allows you to swing later giving you the best opportunity to make hard contact. Not only does fast turn speed increase a hitter’s ability to make contact but it also will increase their power.

The Rebel’s Rack Progression is ‘non-invasive coaching’ meaning the player does not have to go through countless hitting drills or change their stance or swing ideas. We can show all hitters, of any age or gender, exactly how to turn the best and fastest way. The body will choose that movement when the hitter is swinging. Once the hitter understands and feels what a fast turn is, that is when the speed of the turn is truly applied to the hitters swing, they will want to work on their Rebel’s Rack turns every day!
